1. A method of selectively removing albumin proteins from a wet freshwater algal biomass comprised of intact algal cells or wet freshwater algal culture comprised of intact algal cells, the method comprising:

  • a. providing a wet freshwater algal biomass comprised of intact algal cells or wet freshwater algal culture comprised of intact algal cells;

    b. heating and mixing the wet freshwater algal biomass comprised of intact algal cells or wet freshwater algal culture under a pressure greater than or equal to atmospheric pressure to generate an extraction mixture comprising a heated liquid fraction and a heated biomass fraction comprised of intact algal cells; and

    c. separating the heated liquid fraction containing albumin proteins from the heated biomass fraction comprised of intact algal cells, wherein the heated algal biomass fraction comprises lipids.
