Abstract

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal layer disposed between a first substrate and a second substrate, a pixel electrode in a reflection region and a transmission region over the first substrate, a film for adjusting a cell gap in the reflection region over the first substrate, and an opposite electrode in the reflection region and the transmission region over the second substrate. The pixel electrode in the reflection region is provided over the film and reflects light. The pixel electrode in the transmission region transmits light. The pixel electrode in the reflection region and the transmission region includes a slit. The slit is overlapped with at least a part of a step portion which is provided by the film between the reflection region and the transmission region.

Claims

1. A display panel comprising:

a silicon;

a gate insulating film over the silicon;

a gate electrode over the silicon with the gate insulating film interposed therebetween;

a first insulating film over the gate electrode;

a first electrode over the first insulating film, wherein the first electrode is in contact with the silicon through a first opening provided in the gate insulating film and the first insulating film;

a second insulating film comprising an organic material over the first electrode, wherein a surface of the second insulating film comprises an uneven region;

a transparent electrode over the second insulating film;

a reflection electrode over the uneven region of the second insulating film;

a gap adjusting film over the reflection electrode, wherein the gap adjusting film comprises an edge parallel to an edge of the reflection electrode and an edge of the transparent electrode; and

a counter electrode over the reflection electrode and the transparent electrode, wherein the counter electrode comprises a second opening in a region overlapping with the transparent electrode,

wherein the reflection electrode is overlapped with the transparent electrode.

2. The display panel according to claim 1, further comprising a liquid crystal over the gap adjusting film, wherein the counter electrode is provided over the liquid crystal.

3. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the second opening is provided in a middle of the transparent electrode.

4. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the reflection electrode is provided on and in contact with the second insulating film.

5. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the transparent electrode is provided over the gap adjusting film.

6. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the reflection electrode is electrically connected to the transparent electrode.

7. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the counter electrode further comprises a third opening overlapping with the gap adjusting film.

8. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the silicon is amorphous silicon.

9. The display panel according to claim 1, wherein the silicon is polycrystalline silicon.

10. The display panel according to claim 1, comprising a slit between the reflection electrode and the transparent electrode, wherein the slit is parallel to the edge of the gap adjusting film.

11. A display module comprising:

the display panel according to claim 1;

a circuit substrate comprising a control circuit, wherein the circuit substrate is electrically connected to the display panel by a connection wire; and

an IC chip including a driver circuit mounted on the display panel by Chip on Glass.

12. An electronic apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a speaker; and

the display module according to claim 11, wherein the speaker and the display module are stored in the chassis.

13. A display panel comprising:

a silicon;

a gate insulating film over the silicon;

a gate electrode over the silicon with the gate insulating film interposed therebetween;

a first insulating film over the gate electrode;

a first electrode over the first insulating film, wherein the first electrode is in contact with the silicon through a first opening provided in the gate insulating film and the first insulating film;

a second insulating film comprising an organic material over the first electrode, wherein a surface of the second insulating film comprises an uneven region;

a transparent electrode over the second insulating film;

a reflection electrode over the uneven region of the second insulating film;

a slit between the reflection electrode and the transparent electrode;

a gap adjusting film over the reflection electrode, wherein the gap adjusting film comprises an edge parallel to an edge of the reflection electrode, an edge of the transparent electrode, and the slit;

a counter electrode over the reflection electrode and the transparent electrode, wherein the counter electrode comprises a second opening in a region overlapping with the transparent electrode; and

a first projection over the gap adjusting film with the counter electrode interposed therebetween,

wherein the reflection electrode is overlapped with the transparent electrode.

14. The display panel according to claim 13, further comprising a liquid crystal over the gap adjusting film, wherein the counter electrode is provided over the liquid crystal.

15. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the second opening is provided in a middle of the transparent electrode.

16. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the reflection electrode is provided on and in contact with the second insulating film.

17. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the transparent electrode is provided over the gap adjusting film.

18. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the reflection electrode is electrically connected to the transparent electrode.

19. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the counter electrode further comprises a third opening overlapping with the gap adjusting film.

20. The display panel according to claim 13, further comprising a second projection overlapping with the transparent electrode.

21. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the silicon is amorphous silicon.

22. The display panel according to claim 13, wherein the silicon is polycrystalline silicon.

23. A display module comprising:

the display panel according to claim 13;

a circuit substrate comprising a control circuit, wherein the circuit substrate is electrically connected to the display panel by a connection wire; and

an IC chip including a driver circuit mounted on the display panel by Chip on Glass.

24. An electronic apparatus comprising:

a chassis;

a speaker; and

the display module according to claim 23, wherein the speaker and the display module are stored in the chassis.
