Microstructured multifunctional inorganic coating additives for preventing fouling (growth of biofilm) in aquatic applications
First Claim
1. Antifouling additive comprisingat least one porous carrier, wherein the porous carrier is organic, inorganic, or a combination thereof,at least one active antifouling ingredient incorporated into the porous carrier, andat least one further substance, of which at least part of the total amount of the further substance present in the antifouling additive is incorporated in the pores of the porous carrier, wherein, as demonstrated by XPS analysis of the outermost atomic layer of the antifouling additive, at least part of the outermost surface of the antifouling additive is formed by the porous carrier, andwherein the further substance is a protection substance comprising a water-soluble or water-swellable polymer, wherein the water-soluble or water-swellable polymer is selected from the group consisting of polysaccharides, block copolymers, caprolactones, lactide and glycolide polymers, polyanhydrides, polyesters, hydroxybutyric acids, polyphosphazenes, polyphosphoesters, and combinations thereof.
