1. An operating device for a game machine, comprising:
- a main body having front and rear sides and a top surface between the front and rear sides;
first and second grips projecting at spaced positions from the rear side of the main body, each of the first and second grips having a first end connected to the main body and a free end;
first and second finger-manipulatable operating units mounted symmetrically on the top surface of the main body relative to a center line of the main body passing between the first and second grips, each of the first and second operating units being movable relative to the main body so that, when the first grip is gripped by a right hand of a user and the second grip is gripped by a left hand of the user, the first and second operating units can be manipulated simultaneously by the thumb fingers of the user; and
third and fourth operating units arranged on the front side of the main body such that the third and fourth operating units are farther from the torso of the user than the first and second operating units in a use position of the operating device, each of the third and fourth operating units having an input element operable to generate a signal, the third and fourth operating units being actuated by pressing in a direction from the front side of the main body toward the rear side of the main body and substantially parallel to the top surface.
