1. A medical device for securing a fastener to an elongate member, comprising:
- a housing;
an elongate introducer including proximal and distal ends and defining a longitudinal passage along a longitudinal axis;
a tensioning mechanism disposed on or adjacent the housing and configured to tension the elongate member; and
a fastening mechanism at least partially disposed in the distal end of the elongate introducer, wherein at least a portion of the fastening mechanism is configured to be slidable relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongate introducer;
wherein the fastening mechanism is configured to lock the fastener and the elongate member together as the fastening mechanism slides while resisting rotation relative to the elongate introducer and wherein the tensioning mechanism is configured to tension the elongate member independently of the locking by the fastening mechanism.

Abstract
A tissue fixation system is provided for dynamic and rigid fixation of tissue. A fastener connected with an elongate fastening member, such as a cable, wire, suture, rod, or tube, is moved through a passage between opposite sides of tissue. A medical device is used to secure the fastener to the elongate fastening member. The medical device includes a tensioning mechanism for tensioning the elongate fastening member. As crimping mechanism is used to secure the fastener to the elongated member, where a cutting mechanism cut the excess portion of the elongated member.

10. A medical device for securing a fastener to an elongate member, comprising:

a base; a tensioning mechanism connected to the base and configured to tension the elongate member about a tensioning axis; and a tubular member including a first end proximate the base and a second end extending distally from the base, the tubular member defining a longitudinal passage along a longitudinal axis; a crimping member including an aperture sized to receive the fastener and configured to crimp the fastener when the crimping member is moved along the longitudinal axis, wherein the crimping member is configured to resist rotation of the tubular member and crimp the fastener independently of the tensioning by the tensioning mechanism. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
