Abstract

The present disclosure relates to the use of a split and single electrical cells in industrial applications, and particularly in aseptic packaging applications.

Claims

1. A method of treating a rinse solution comprising:

(a) applying a rinse solution to a surface of a food package and forming a used rinse solution;

(b) collecting the used rinse solution, the used rinse solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and peracid;

(c) transporting the used rinse solution using a rinse line;

(d) integrating a single electrolytic cell into the rinse line; and

(e) using the single electrolytic cell to degrade predetermined amounts of the hydrogen peroxide and peracid in the used rinse.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the rinse solution is a rinse from aseptic packaging applications.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the peracid is selected from the group consisting of peracetic acid, peroctanoic acid, and mixtures thereof.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the single electrolytic cell comprises an anode and a cathode.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the predetermined amounts of hydrogen peroxide and peracid are:

(a) from about 0.00001 to about 0.5 wt. % hydrogen peroxide; and

(b) from about 0.1 to about 2.0 wt. % of peracid.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the single electrolytic cell further comprises a power supply.
