1. A method comprising:
- receiving a recording, wherein the recording includes computer readable media data;
generating, by use of one or more processors, an internal identifier for the recording, wherein the internal identifier is a signature that uniquely identities the recording;
adding the internal identifier to a plurality of internal identifier fields of a plurality of structures for metadata, wherein the plurality of structures includes metadata associated with a plurality of different occurrences of the recording, wherein the metadata included in the structures is data that describes the computer readable media data included in each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording, and wherein each of the plurality of structures is stored in a database, andgenerating, by use of the one or more processors, a link between the internal identifier in the metadata of each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording and an external identifier not in the metadata, wherein the external identifier is derived from audio or video data of the recording.

Abstract
A method and a system are provided for managing metadata for occurrences of a recording. In one example, the system receives a recording. The recording includes computer readable media data. The system generates an internal identifier of the recording. The internal identifier is a signature that uniquely identifies the recording. The system then adds the internal identifier to metadata that are associated with at least one occurrence of the recording. The metadata are data that describe the recording.

11. A system including at least one processor for storing an internal identifier in metadata, wherein the system is configured for:
-
receiving a recording, wherein the recording includes computer readable media data; generating an internal identifier for the recording, wherein the internal identifier is a signature that uniquely identifies the recording; adding the internal identifier to a plurality of internal identifier fields of a plurality of structures for metadata, wherein the plurality of structures includes metadata associated with a plurality of different occurrences of the recording, wherein the metadata included in the structures is data that describes the computer readable media data included in each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording, and wherein each of the plurality of structures is stored in a database, and generating, by use of the one or more processors, a link between the internal identifier in the metadata of each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording and an external identifier not in the metadata, wherein the external identifier is derived from audio or video data of the recording. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A non-transitory computer readable medium carrying one or more instructions for storing an internal identifier in metadata, wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the steps of:
-
receiving a recording, wherein the recording includes computer readable media data; generating an internal identifier for the recording, wherein the internal identifier is a signature that uniquely identifies the recording; adding the internal identifier to a plurality of internal identifier fields of a plurality of structures for metadata, wherein the plurality of structures includes metadata associated with a plurality of different occurrences of the recording, wherein the metadata included in the structures is data that describes the computer readable media data included in each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording, and wherein each of the plurality of structures is stored in a database, and generating, by use of the one or more processors, a link between the internal identifier in the metadata of each of the plurality of different occurrences of the recording and an external identifier not in the metadata, wherein the external identifier is derived from audio or video data of the recording.
