Multifunctional monitoring device for absorbent articles
First Claim
1. A method for monitoring physiological indices in an individual as the individual ages comprising:
- associating one or more signaling devices with absorbent articles worn by the individual, each absorbent article including at least one sensing device that senses a physiological indication related to the individual, the sensing device being placed in communication with the one or more signaling device when the absorbent article is being worn, inputting physiological information into the one or more signaling devices regarding the individual, wherein the physiological information comprises information about the age of the individual; and
updating at least one function or display of the one or more signaling devices via communication with an external device as the individual reaches new developmental stages throughout the life of the individual, wherein the developmental stages comprise a newborn stage, a toddler stage, an adolescent stage, and an adult stage, wherein the update in the function or display output is associated with the same physiological indication but with a different type of interactivity with the individual based on the developmental stage.

Abstract
Monitoring the status of an absorbent article can be desirable to various users in various situations. A monitoring device for use with an absorbent article is provided. The monitoring device includes a sensing device and a signaling device. The sensing device is configured to sense a physiological indication related to the absorbent article wearer. The functionality of the monitoring device may be updateable, for instance, by utilizing firmware updates, hardware or user interface changes, software installations, etc. Thus, the monitoring device of the present invention may be utilized over an entire lifespan from infants to elderly without the need for costly replacement or installation of an entirely new monitoring system.
