1. A method comprising:
- triggering, by a point-of-sale terminal, execution of a secure element application operating at an application layer of a secure element in response to a near field communication initiated by the point-of-sale terminal without communication between the secure element and a mobile device, the execution of the secure element application by a secure element processor included in the secure element sends a coupon and payment credentials to the point-of-sale terminal without prior authentication;
receiving, at the point-of-sale terminal comprising a point-of-sale terminal processor, the coupon and payment credentials corresponding to a default payment mechanism associated with the secure element, wherein the secure element is coupled to the mobile device comprising a mobile device memory, a mobile device processor that executes a mobile application, and a mobile device transceiver; and
sending, by the point-of-sale terminal, the coupon and payment credentials to a management server, wherein the management server processes a near field communication transaction using the payment credentials and the coupon.

Abstract
The invention describes how a consumer can hold their NFC enabled device in proximity to an NFC enabled point-of-sale terminal and with a single “wave” or “tap” to automatically redeem coupons, pay for a purchase using a default payment card or a selected card, view receipts view reward point balances, and receive relevant coupons and other digital artifacts both before and after the purchase. The NFC enabled device includes a secure element with a payment application, payment credentials, and other digital artifacts such as coupons. The secure element can be internal to the mobile device, externally affixed to the mobile device, or inserted into a slot within the body of the mobile device.

18. A point-of-sale terminal comprising:
-
a point-of-sale interface configured to receive a coupon and payment credentials corresponding to a default payment mechanism associated with a secure element, the secure element is coupled to a mobile device comprising a mobile device memory, a mobile device processor that executes a mobile application, and a mobile device transceiver, wherein a secure element processor included in the secure element initiates execution of a secure element application operating at an application layer of the secure element in response to a near field communication triggered by the point-of-sale without communication with the mobile device and sends the payment credentials and coupon to the point-of-sale terminal without prior authentication; and a point-of-sale processor configured to send the coupon and payment credentials to a management server, wherein the management server processes a near field communication transaction using the payment credentials and the coupon. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
