1. A child safety seat, comprising:

  • a seat body having a seat bottom and a seat back;

    a base for supporting the seat body;

    the base having a first portion positioned below the seat bottom and a second portion positioned behind the seat back;

    the seat bottom being slidably connected to the first portion of the base and the seat back being slidably connected to the second portion of the base;

    the seat body being movable relative to the base, between a resting position and a ride down position, defined as a position in which there has been a resulting change in location of the seat bottom relative to the second portion of the base from its resting position caused by accident forces;

    means for adjusting an angle of the seat body relative to the base when the seat body is in the resting position;

    means connected between the seat body and the base for dampening movement of the seat body from the resting position to the ride down position.
