1. A joint prosthesis comprising:

  • a first component having an articulation surface, a solid metal portion, a porous metal portion an opposite bone-engaging surface that is part of the porous metal portion;

    a bearing having an articulation surface shaped to bear against the articulation surface of the first component and an opposite surface; and

    a second component having a mounting surface and an opposite bone-engaging surface;

    wherein the first component has a central sagittal plane and includes a plurality of recesses and a plurality of spaced studs, each stud being received within one recess and having an end, the recesses and studs being spaced from the central sagittal plane of the implant component and being part of the solid metal portion;

    a plurality of extensions, each extension mounted on one stud and extending out from the bone-engaging surface to an end, each extension having an outer surface between the end and the bone-engaging surface, a part of each extension being received in one recess;

    wherein;

    the porous metal portion and extension comprise a titanium metal foam and the solid metal portion comprises a titanium alloy;

    the extensions and the porous metal portion meet at junctions comprising titanium metal foam;

    the porous metal portion, solid metal portion and extensions are bonded together through sintering;

    the junctions lie in a plane; and
