- emitting light from a light emitting element of a sensor;
detecting the light with a light detecting element of the sensor;
storing sensor model identification data within a memory of the sensor;
providing access to the memory to facilitate reading the sensor model identification data with an oximeter monitor;
storing action data within the memory of the sensor, the action data describing an action to be performed by the oximeter monitor in response to reading the sensor model identification data;
reading the sensor model identification data and the action data using the oximeter monitor; and
performing the action in response to reading the sensor model identification data and the action data using the oximeter monitor.

a drive circuit configured to provide signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor that is coupleable to a patient; and a circuit configured to receive sensor model identification data and action data from a memory of the oximeter sensor, wherein the action data describes an action to be performed by the oximeter monitor in response to reading the sensor model identification data, and wherein the circuit is configured to perform the action after receiving the sensor model identification data and the action data from the oximeter sensor.

providing signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor that is coupleable to a patient; receiving sensor model identification data and action data from a memory of the oximeter sensor, wherein the action data describes an action to be performed by the oximeter monitor in response to reading the sensor model identification data; and performing the action after receiving the sensor model identification data and action data from the oximeter sensor.
