1. A method, for use with at least one processor on at least one computer in a computer system, of recommending a treatment among a plurality of treatment options for a given treatable medical condition of a patient, the method comprising:

  • receiving patient information related to the patient and the medical condition;

    searching a database with indexed scientific studies, each scientific study evaluating an effect of a different treatment option on different trial subjects who have the given medical condition;

    assigning a distinct study value to each of the scientific studies, each distinct study value corresponding to a grading of evidence in the scientific study;

    determining applicability of the scientific studies to the patient using the patient information to produce a plurality of applicability values, each applicability value based on matching between patient characteristics and characteristics of the trial subjects tested in a distinct scientific study from the indexed scientific studies;

    generating a distinct treatment score for each distinct treatment option using at least the study values for scientific studies involving the distinct treatment option and the applicability values for those scientific studies; and

    generating a report listing the treatment options and a) the treatment scores or b) information derived from the treatment scores.
