Method for creating incisions to improve intraocular lens placement
First Claim
1. A method of inserting an intraocular lens in a patient'"'"'s eye, comprising:
- generating a light beam;
deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form an enclosed treatment pattern that is configured to form an enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes a registration feature;
delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient'"'"'s eye to form in an anterior lens capsule of the patient'"'"'s eye the enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes the registration feature; and
placing an intraocular lens within the enclosed capsulorhexis incision, wherein the intraocular lens has an intraocular lens registration feature that engages with the registration feature of the enclosed capsulorhexis incision.

Abstract
A system and method for inserting an intraocular lens in a patient'"'"'s eye includes a light source for generating a light beam, a scanner for deflecting the light beam to form an enclosed treatment pattern that includes a registration feature, and a delivery system for delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient'"'"'s eye to form an enclosed incision therein having the registration feature. An intraocular lens is placed within the enclosed incision, wherein the intraocular lens has a registration feature that engages with the registration feature of the enclosed incision. Alternately, the scanner can make a separate registration incision for a post that is connected to the intraocular lens via a strut member.

-
generating a light beam; deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form an enclosed treatment pattern that is configured to form an enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes a registration feature; delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient'"'"'s eye to form in an anterior lens capsule of the patient'"'"'s eye the enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes the registration feature; and placing an intraocular lens within the enclosed capsulorhexis incision, wherein the intraocular lens has an intraocular lens registration feature that engages with the registration feature of the enclosed capsulorhexis incision. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

7. A method of inserting an intraocular lens in a patient'"'"'s eye, comprising:
-
generating a light beam; deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form an enclosed capsulorhexis treatment pattern and a registration pattern; delivering the enclosed treatment pattern and the registration pattern to target tissue in the patient'"'"'s eye to form an enclosed capsulorhexis incision and a registration incision in the patient'"'"'s eye; placing an intraocular lens within the enclosed capsulorhexis incision; placing a post within the registration incision; and using at least one strut member that connects the post and the intraocular lens to rotationally register the intraocular lens relative to the post. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10)

11. A method of inserting an intraocular lens in a patient'"'"'s eye, comprising:
-
generating a laser light beam; deflecting the laser light beam, using a scanner, so as to deliver a laser light beam in a treatment pattern to a target tissue in the patient'"'"'s eye and effect an incision pattern in an anterior capsule of a lens of the patient'"'"'s eye, the incision pattern comprising a capsulorhexis incision and a registration feature incision; and placing an intraocular lens within the patterned incision, wherein the intraocular lens has a registration feature that engages with the registration feature incision. - View Dependent Claims (12)
