1. A system for imaging a textured surface comprising:

  • a partially coherent light source configured to project electromagnetic radiation onto the textured surface, wherein the projected beam generates first radiation diffusely scattered from a first portion of the textured surface to form a speckle pattern, and second radiation diffusely scattered from a second portion of the textured surface which is substantially uniform in intensity; and

an optical detector configured to receive the first and second reflected radiation from the textured surface, wherein a coherence length of the partially coherent light source is greater than a depth of the first region and less than a depth of the second region, when imaged within a single pixel of the optical detector.
