1. A multi-lumen central line vena cava filter catheter, comprising:
- a catheter body having a first lumen and a second lumen, the first lumen and the second lumen being separated by a portion of the catheter body, the catheter body having a first opening in communication with the first lumen and a second opening in communication with the second lumen; and
a vena cava filter member coupled to and positioned circumferentially around a distal region of the catheter body and generally intermediate the first opening and the second opening such that the catheter body passes generally centrally through a longitudinal axis of the vena cava filter member, the vena cava filter member consisting of a plurality of strut members configured to form a proximal filter section having a plurality of proximal interstitial openings, a distal filter section having a plurality of distal interstitial openings, the proximal filter section and the distal filter section being asymmetrical relative to each other, the proximal interstitial openings being larger in open surface area than the distal interstitial openings, and a hoop member between the proximal filter section and the distal filter section, the hoop member comprising a generally sinusoidal-shaped member having a plurality of peaks and valleys, wherein each one of the plurality of peaks and valleys is connected to one of the plurality of strut members, a first end of the vena cava filter member being circumferentially coupled in fixed relation to the catheter body and a second end of the vena cava filter being circumferentially and moveably coupled to the catheter body;
wherein the vena cava filter member is self-centering within a blood vessel lumen.

Abstract
A combined multi-lumen central access catheter and an embolic filter including ports proximal and distal the filter for fluid infusion and/or pressure sensing and infusion ports in the catheter to permit infusion of bioactive agents, flushing agents and/or contrast agents. The embolic filter may be removably coupled to the multi-lumen catheter for temporary placement and retrieval under recommended indications.
