1. A system for monitoring physiological conditions of an ambulatory patient capable of moving among a plurality of environmental locations external to the patient based on a detection of at least one posture associated with the patient, the system comprising:

  • a detector, including a first device positioned in one of the plurality of environmental locations and a second device attached to the ambulatory patient, the first and second devices configured to cooperate to detect the patient being within a specified range of the first device and to determine the at least one posture associated with the patient in response to the patient being within the specified range of the first device;

    a physiological sensor that is responsive to a physiological condition of the patient; and

    a processing device configured to automatically measure from the physiological sensor at least one physiological condition of the patient in response to the detection of the at least one posture.
