1. A cleaning composition comprising:
- at least one alkali metal hydroxide present in an amount from about 20% to about 70% by weight of the cleaning composition;
water;
2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or salts thereof present in an amount from about 0.5% to about 10% by weight of the cleaning composition; and
a polysaccharide graft polymer composition present in an amount from about 1% to about 10% by weight of the cleaning composition, the polysaccharide graft polymer comprising;
polysaccharide residue in an amount from approximately 5% to approximately 90% by weight of the polysaccharide graft polymer composition; and
residue of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer present in an amount from approximately 10% to approximately 75% by weight of the polysaccharide graft polymer composition.

In one embodiment, the polysaccharide graft polymer composition includes a polysaccharide residue present in an amount from approximately 5% to approximately 90% by weight of the polysaccharide graft polymer composition and a residue of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or a combination thereof present in an amount from approximately 10% to approximately 75% by weight of the polysaccharide graft polymer composition.

8. A method of preparing a use solution, the method comprising:
mixing water with a detergent composition to form the use solution, wherein the use solution comprises; at least one alkali metal hydroxide present in an amount from about 1 ppm to about 1000 ppm; 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or salts thereof present in an amount from about 0.1 ppm to about 200 ppm; and a polysaccharide graft polymer composition present in an amount from about 1 ppm to about 500 ppm, wherein the polysaccharide graft polymer composition comprises from about 5% to about 90% by weight polysaccharide residue and from about 10% to about 75% by weight residue of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11)

12. A method for controlling hard water scale, the method comprising:

adding a polysaccharide graft polymer and 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or salts thereof to an aqueous system to control hard water scaling, wherein the polysaccharide graft polymer comprises; residue of a polysaccharide present in an amount from about 5% to about 90% the polysaccharide graft polymer composition; and residue of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or combinations thereof present in amount from about 10% to about 75% weight of the polysaccharide graft polymer composition, and wherein the polysaccharide graft polymer composition and 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or salts thereof are added in amounts such that the aqueous system includes about 1 to about 500 ppm polysaccharide graft polymer composition and from about 0.1 to about 200 ppm 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid or salts thereof. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16)
