1. A method of assembling a Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (PDU), the method comprising:
- allocating radio resources to logical channels in a decreasing priority order, andif any radio resources remain, all logical channels are served in a strict decreasing priority order until either data for that logical channel or an uplink grant is exhausted, whichever comes first,wherein logical channels that are configured with equal priority are served equally,wherein at least one uplink Common Control Channel (CCCH) Medium Access Control (MAC) Service Data Unit (SDU) to be transmitted has higher priority than MAC control elements for a Buffer Status Report (BSR); and
combining the at least one uplink CCCH MAC SDU and the MAC control elements for the BSR to form a MAC PDU to be transmitted.

Abstract
With respect to generating and sending a MAC PDU by using the radio resources allocated to the mobile terminal, the level of priority between the buffer status report (BSR) and the established logical channels are defined such that the data of each logical channel and buffer status report can be more effectively, efficiently and quickly transmitted.

4. A method of transmitting a Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (PDU), the method performed by a mobile terminal and comprising:
-
requesting, to a network, allocation of resources for uplink transmissions, wherein the requesting is performed by using a RACH (Random Access CHannel) procedure; receiving, from the network, allocation of resources for new transmissions; allocating resources to logical channels for the new transmissions, wherein all logical channels are allocated resources in a decreasing priority order, and if any radio resources remain, all logical channels are served in a strict decreasing priority order until either data for that logical channel or an uplink grant is exhausted, whichever comes first, wherein logical channels that are configured with equal priority are served equally, wherein at least one uplink Common Control Channel (CCCH) Medium Access Control (MAC) Service Data Unit (SDU) to be transmitted has higher priority than MAC control elements for a Buffer Status Report (BSR); multiplexing the at least one uplink CCCH MAC SDU and the MAC control elements for the BSR into a MAC PDU; and transmitting, to the network, the MAC PDU using the allocated resources. - View Dependent Claims (5, 6, 7, 8)

9. A mobile terminal comprising:
-
a transceiver configured to request allocation of resources for uplink transmissions, wherein the request uses a RACH procedure, and to receive allocation of resources for new transmissions; and a processor configured to cooperate with the transceiver and to allocate the resources to logical channels for the new transmissions, wherein all logical channels are allocated resources in a decreasing priority order, and if any radio resources remain, all logical channels are served in a strict decreasing priority order until either data for that logical channel or an uplink grant is exhausted, whichever comes first, wherein logical channels that are configured with equal priority are served equally, wherein at least one uplink Common Control Channel (CCCH) Medium Access Control (MAC) Service Data Unit (SDU) to be transmitted has higher priority than MAC control elements for a buffer status report (BSR), to multiplex the at least one uplink CCCH MAC SDU and the MAC control elements for the BSR into a MAC PDU, and to transmit the MAC PDU using the allocated resources. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A method of logical channel prioritization for radio communications, the method comprising:
-
scheduling of uplink data for logical channels by giving each logical channel a priority and a prioritized bit rate (PBR), whereby increasing priority values indicate lower priority levels; and allocating radio resources to said logical channels in a sequential manner whereby all logical channels are allocated radio resources in a decreasing priority order, and if the PBR of a radio bearer is set to infinity, radio resources for data available for transmission on the radio bearer are allocated before meeting the PBR of lower priority radio bearers, and if any radio resources remain, all logical channels are served in a strict decreasing priority order until either data for that logical channel or an uplink grant is exhausted, whichever comes first, wherein logical channels that are configured with equal priority are served equally, wherein the scheduling and allocating steps are performed by;
not segmenting a data unit if the whole data unit fits into any remaining radio resources, wherein said data unit is an RLC SDU or a partially transmitted SDU or a retransmitted RLC PDU; and
by maximizing a size of a segment of an RLC SDU to fill said uplink grant as much as possible if said data unit from a logical channel is segmented; andwherein at least one uplink Common Control Channel (CCCH) MAC SDU to be transmitted has higher priority than MAC control elements for BSR. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16)
