1. A test strip to assist in determining the concentration of an analyte in a fluid sample, comprising:

  • a base including a capillary channel that terminates at a test element, the capillary channel being in fluid communication with the test element, the test element being adapted to receive the fluid sample via the capillary channel;

    a first tab removably attached to a first end of the base, the capillary channel extending from the test element in the base into a portion of the first tab such that the first tab includes a portion of the capillary channel;

    a break line intersecting the capillary channel, wherein an inlet to the capillary channel is exposed along the break line when the first tab is separated from the base; and

    a flexible strip, a first portion of the flexible strip being attached to the base, a second portion of the flexible strip being removably attached to the base, and a third portion of the flexible strip being attached to the first tab, wherein the flexible strip remains attached to the base and the first tab after the first tab is detached from the first end of the base.
