1. A controller for a resonant converter, wherein the controller is configured to operate the resonant converter in:
- a high power mode of operation by adjusting a first control parameter to a vary an output power; and
a low power mode of operation by adjusting a second control parameter to vary the output power; and
wherein the controller is configured to set a value of the first control parameter when changing over between the high power mode of operation and the low power mode of operation such that the output power is substantially consistent during the changing over;
wherein the first control parameter is an energy per cycle parameter; and
wherein the controller is configured to multiply the first control parameter by a factor N when changing between the high power mode of operation and the low power mode of operation, and wherein N corresponds to a ratio of a period time to a period of energy conversion pulses that will be employed in the low power mode of operation.

Abstract
Consistent with an example embodiment, there is a controller for a resonant converter, wherein the controller is configured to operate the resonant converter in a high power mode of operation by adjusting a first control parameter to vary the output power and a low power mode of operation by adjusting a second control parameter to vary the output power. The controller is configured to set the value of the first control parameter when changing over between the high power mode of operation and the low power mode of operation such that the output power is substantially consistent during the changing over.

12. A method of operating a resonant converter, wherein the resonant converter is operable in:
-
a high power mode of operation by adjusting a first control parameter to vary an output power; and a low power mode of operation by adjusting a second control parameter to vary the output power;
the method comprising;setting a value of the first control parameter when changing over between the high power mode of operation and the low power mode of operation such that the output power is substantially consistent during the changing over; and wherein the first control parameter is an energy per cycle parameter; and wherein the controller is configured to multiply the first control parameter by a factor N when changing between the high power mode of operation and the low power mode of operation, and wherein N corresponds to a ratio of a period time to a period of energy conversion pulses that will be employed in the low power mode of operation.
