1. A trocar system comprising:
- a handle having a hollow interior section and a first end and a second end;
a drive member positioned within the hollow interior section having a first end a second end, the drive member having teeth and configured for movement in a longitudinal direction;
a pawl positioned within the hollow interior section, the pawl disposed to selectively engage one of the teeth and prevent rearward movement of the drive member in the longitudinal direction;
a plunger having a first end and a second end, the second end of the plunger disposed to selectively engage one of the teeth to move the drive member forward in the longitudinal direction;
a trocar disposed adjacent the second end of the handle;
a cannula having a central opening for receiving the trocar; and
wherein the first end of the drive member is disposed relative to the cannula such that forward movement of the drive member by the plunger results in forward movement of the cannula in the longitudinal direction.
