A method for identifying a compound for decreasing hypertension and increasing insulin sensitivity in a subject, the method comprisingdetermining whether or not a compound inhibits the activity of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), wherein a compound that inhibits the activity of CETP is a candidate compound for decreasing hypertension and increasing insulin sensitivity, anddetermining whether or not the compound that inhibits the activity of CETP decreases hypertension and increases insulin sensitivity in a subject,wherein the compound identified decreases hypertension and increases insulin sensitivity in a subject.
