1. A method of operating a wireless communications which supports peer to peer communications, the method comprising:

  • receiving control signals from a base station at a first rate, said control signals providing peer to peer communications resource control information to said wireless communications device, said control information including scheduling priority information indicating a peer to peer transmission priority to be used by said wireless communications device when making a traffic transmission decision; and

making peer to peer traffic transmission decisions, at a second rate which is faster than said first rate, based on peer to peer communications resource control information including said peer to peer transmission priority included in a control signal received from said base station and based on peer to peer traffic scheduling information, multiple peer to peer traffic transmission decisions being made based on said peer to peer transmission priority during a period of time prior to receiving another control signal from said base station indicating a new peer to peer transmission priority to be used by said wireless communications device.
