System and method for managing locally-initiated medical device interrogation
First Claim
1. A system for managing locally-initiated medical device interrogation, comprising:
- a noncontinuously coupleable interface over which to retrieve patient data recorded and transiently staged by a medical device monitoring physiological measures of a patient; and
a collector, configured to;
periodically retrieve patient data by interfacing to and interrogating the medical device per a pre-defined schedule through the interface; and
permit patient-initiated patient data retrieval independent of the pre-defined schedule;
wherein the system is configured to receive criteria specified by a caregiver from a server, and limit the number of attempts of patient-initiated patient data retrieval in accordance with the criteria, wherein the criteria comprise at least a fixed time period following an event occurrence within which a patient-initiated interrogation attempt is allowed to proceed.

Abstract
A system and method for managing locally-initiated medical device interrogation is presented. An interface is provided over which to retrieve patient data recorded and transiently staged by a medical device monitoring physiological measures of a patient. The patient data is periodically retrieved by interfacing to and interrogating the medical device per a pre-defined schedule through the interface. Further retrieval of the patient data is permitted independent of the pre-defined schedule. The system stores remotely-specifiable criteria specified by a caregiver and controls patient-initiated patient data retrieval in accordance with the criteria.

5. A method for managing locally-initiated medical device interrogation, comprising:
-
receiving a request for a patient-initiated interrogation of a medical device; obtaining criteria for the patient-initiated interrogation from a server, wherein the criteria comprise a limit on the number of patient-initiated interrogation requests; blocking the patient-initiated interrogation conditioned on the criteria; and providing an alert notification that a caregiver has temporarily disabled patient-initiated interrogation. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A patient management system for the remote management of a patient comprising:
-
a storage device configured to store retrieved patient data, an interrogation counter maintained by the storage device; conditions affecting patient-initiated interrogation stored in the storage device and received from a server, the conditions comprising a limit on the number of patient-initiated interrogation attempts, and a fixed time period following an event occurrence within which a patient-initiated interrogation attempt is allowed to proceed; a collector configured to control patient-initiated interrogation based on the conditions and upload collected data to a centralized server; and a notifier configured to provide alert notifications including at least; that patient-initiated interrogation has been temporarily disabled, and the number of patient-initiated interrogation attempts. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
