Micro vein enhancer
First Claim
1. A hand-holdable miniature vein enhancer, for single-handed use in the handheld imaging of veins of a target area on a patient in a venipuncture procedure, said miniature vein enhancer comprising:
- a mast member;
a miniature projection head configured to be secured proximate to a first end of said mast member, said miniature projection head comprising a first laser configured to image the target area and a second laser configured to project said image onto the target area, said miniature projection head configured to use a first wavelength of non-diffuse light to image the target area and a second wavelength to project said image onto the target area; and
means for releasably securing a second end of said mast member to a cylindrical portion of a vial holder/needle combination, to permit single-handed lifting and use of said miniature vein enhancer, during handheld imaging of the target area in a venipuncture procedure, which mimics a normal grip used for grasping a vial holder for insertion into veins.

Abstract
The present invention is a Miniature Vein Enhancer that includes a Miniature Projection Head. The Miniature Projection Head may be operated in one of three modes, AFM, DBM, and RTM. The Miniature Projection Head of the present invention projects an image of the veins of a patient, which aids the practitioner in pinpointing a vein for an intravenous drip, blood test, and the like. The Miniature projection head may have a cavity for a power source or it may have a power source located in a body portion of the Miniature Vein Enhancer. The Miniature Vein Enhancer may be attached to one of several improved needle protectors, or the Miniature Vein Enhancer may be attached to a body similar to a flashlight for hand held use. The Miniature Vein Enhancer of the present invention may also be attached to a magnifying glass, a flat panel display, and the like.

14. A hand-holdable miniature vein enhancer, for single-handed use in the handheld imaging of veins of a target area on a patient in a venipuncture procedure, said miniature vein enhancer comprising:
-
a mast member; a miniature projection head, said miniature projection head configured to be secured proximate to a first end of said mast member, said miniature projection head comprising means to image the target area with a first wavelength of non-diffuse light and to project said image onto the target area with a second wavelength of light; and means for releasably securing a second end of said mast member to a vial holder, to permit single-handed lifting and use of said miniature vein enhancer during handheld imaging of the target area in a venipuncture procedure, which mimics a normal grip used for grasping a vial holder for insertion into veins. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)

23. A hand-holdable miniature vein enhancer, for single-handed use in the imaging of veins of a target field of view on a patient in a handheld venipuncture procedure, said miniature vein enhancer comprising:
-
a mast member; a miniature projection head configured to be secured to a first end of said mast member, said miniature projection head comprising a first laser configured to image the target field of view and a second laser configured to project said image onto the target field of view;
said miniature projection head configured to use a first wavelength of non-diffuse light to image the target field of view and a second wavelength of light to project said image onto the target field of view; andmeans for releasably securing a second end of said mast member directly to a cylindrical portion of a vial holder, with said mast configured to permit single-handed lifting and use of said miniature vein enhancer for handheld imaging of the target field of view during a venipuncture procedure, which mimics a normal grip used for grasping a vial holder for insertion into veins. - View Dependent Claims (24, 25)
