1. A vascular access device comprising:
- a body having a lumen through which a substance is introduced into the vasculature of a patient;
a channel within the body, the channel having a first end, a second end, a length, and inner dimensions;
a liquid absorbing material disposed within the channel;
a liquid source in fluid communication with the first end of the channel; and
the length and inner dimensions of the channel being configured so that a liquid from the liquid source moves from the first end of the channel through the liquid absorbing material to the second end of the channel in approximately a predetermined amount of time.

-
a body; a lumen within the body through which a liquid is introduced into the vasculature of the patient; a channel within the body, the channel having a first end, a second end, a length, and inner dimensions; a liquid absorbing material disposed within the channel; the first end of the channel being in fluid communication with the lumen such that when a liquid is within the lumen, the liquid contacts the liquid absorbing material in the channel; and the length and inner dimensions of the channel being configured so that the liquid within the lumen moves from the first end of the channel through the liquid absorbing material to the second end of the channel in approximately a predetermined amount of time. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17)

-
a body having a lumen through which a substance is introduced into the vasculature of a patient; a channel within the body, the channel having a first end, a second end, a length, and inner dimensions; a liquid absorbing material disposed within the channel; a liquid reservoir disposed near the first end of the channel; a breakable seal disposed between the liquid reservoir and the first end of the channel, such that when the breakable seal is broken, liquid from the liquid reservoir is in fluid communication with the channel; the length and inner dimensions of the channel being configured so that a liquid from the liquid source moves from the first end of the channel through the liquid absorbing material to the second end of the channel in approximately a predetermined amount of time. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
