1. An integrated circuit device for use in a line card of a network node of a digital networking system, wherein the integrated circuit device is configured:

  • to intercept one or more control messages originating from at least one customer premises equipment (CPE) device, the one or more control messages corresponding to at least an updated operational status of a first one of a plurality of terminal equipment (TE) devices associated with the at least one CPE device; and

    to generate one or more rate control messages for transmission to a network processor of the network node to adapt bandwidth utilization of at least a second one of the plurality of TE devices in response to the updated operational status of the first one of the plurality of TE devices and provide adapted data traffic flow to the at least one CPE device in response to the updated operational status of the first one of the plurality of TE devices.
