1. A syringe for use with an injector comprising a syringe retaining mechanism, the syringe comprising:

  • a tubular body comprising a rear end and a front end;

    a plunger sealingly engaged within the tubular body;

    at least one attachment member disposed on the rear end or the front end of the tubular body, the at least one attachment member adapted to be releasably retained by the syringe retaining mechanism of the injector regardless of the orientation of the syringe with respect to the injector,wherein the at least one attachment member includes at least one attachment ridge extending radially outward a distance from the tubular body, wherein the at least one attachment ridge defines a shoulder having a diameter larger than the tubular body,wherein the at least one attachment ridge comprises one or more flexible tab members,wherein each of the one or more flexible tab members comprises a first tab end attached to the tubular body and a second tab end terminating radially from the tubular body and adapted to engage the syringe retaining mechanism of the injector,wherein each of the one or more flexible tab members flexes at the second tab end,wherein at least one gap is formed in the axial direction of the tubular body adjacent to at least one flexible tab member; and

    at least one encoding mechanism formed circumferentially around at least a portion of the rear end of the tubular body and operable to provide syringe information to the injector.
