- determining, by one or more computing systems, a physical location associated with a particular user;
calculating, by the one or more computing systems, a novelty score for the user-location pair based at least in part on the occurrence frequency of the user-location pair, wherein the calculated novelty score is inversely related to an estimate of how familiar the user is with the physical location; and
surfacing, by the one or more computing systems, one or more pieces of content to the device based on the novelty score.
