1. A retainer for securing an elongated medical article to a patient comprising:

  • a base having a cavity;

    a cover attached to the base and at least movable from an open position to a closed position, at least a portion of the cover being covered by an adhesive, the adhesive contacting the secured medical article at least when the cover is in the closed position;

    a compressible member being disposed in the cavity of the base, the base and the cover comprising a first material and the compressible member comprising a second material, the second material being softer than the first material, the compressible member having an inner wall, the compressible member being at least partially covered by the cover when the cover is in the closed position, at least a portion of the compressible member being contacted by at least a portion of the cover at least when the cover is in the closed position, the inner wall having a curvilinear shape in at least a lateral direction along at least a portion of its length so as to contact a portion of the medical article and inhibit longitudinal movement of the medical article through the retainer, at least a portion of the compressible member contacting the medical article for more than 180 degrees around the circumference of the medical article; and

    an anchor pad having at least a portion of a first side covered with an adhesive layer to adhere the anchor pad to a patient'"'"'s skin, and an opposing second side supporting the base.
