Abstract

An electronic equipment enclosure comprises a frame structure formed from a plurality of support posts and at least partially enclosed by a plurality of panels. The panels include at least side, top and back panels defining an enclosure having a top, a bottom and a rear thereof. The top panel includes an opening there through that is rectangular in shape. The equipment enclosure further comprises an exhaust air duct extending upward from the top panel of the enclosure. The exhaust air duct is rectangular in cross-section and is disposed in surrounding relation to, and in fluid communication with, the top panel opening. The exhaust air duct is adapted to segregate hot air being exhausted from the enclosure from cool air entering the enclosure, thereby improving thermal management of the enclosure.

Claims

1. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

an inner duct section and an outer duct section,

wherein the inner duct section nests within the outer duct section and telescopes to adjust the height of the vertical exhaust duct,

wherein the outer duct section includes at least one opening for securing the vertical exhaust duct at a desired height, and

wherein the at least one opening includes at least one pair of spaced apart elongated openings disposed on opposite sides of the outer duct section.

2. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 1, wherein the at least one opening is adapted to receive a fastener.

3. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 1, wherein the inner duct section includes at least one opening aligned with the at least one opening of the outer duct section.

4. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 3, wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section includes at least one pair of spaced apart openings disposed on opposite sides of the inner duct.

5. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 3, wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section is adapted to receive a fastener.

6. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 5, wherein the fastener includes a nut.

7. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 1, wherein the inner duct section includes a top flange.

8. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 1, further comprising a base for securing the outer duct section to the electronic equipment enclosure.

9. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

first and second duct sections, each having a generally rectangular cross-section,

wherein the generally rectangular cross-section of the first duct section is smaller than the generally rectangular cross-section of the second duct section such that the first duct section is nestable relative to the second duct section,

wherein the duct sections are telescopically adjustable to permit adjustment of a vertical height defined by the first and second duct sections,

wherein one of the first and second duct sections includes a lower mounting edge to facilitate attachment to an electronic equipment enclosure, and

wherein one of the duct sections includes a column of apertures, the apertures being selectively alignable with at least one aperture of the other of the duct sections so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height.

10. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the first duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

11. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the second duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

12. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the fastener is a bolt.

13. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the fastener is a spring-loaded pin.

14. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the apertures of the column of apertures are evenly spaced.

15. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 9, wherein the column of apertures and the at least one aperture are located adjacent a corner area of the respective duct sections.

16. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

first and second duct sections, each having a generally rectangular cross-section,

wherein the generally rectangular cross-section of the first duct section is smaller than the generally rectangular cross-section of the second duct section such that the first duct section is nestable relative to the second duct section,

wherein the duct sections are telescopically adjustable to permit adjustment of a vertical height defined by the first and second duct sections,

wherein one of the first and second duct sections includes a lower mounting edge to facilitate attachment to an electronic equipment enclosure, and

wherein at least a portion of the lower mounting edge is configured to extend into an opening in a top panel of the electronic equipment enclosure.

17. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 16, wherein the first duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

18. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 16, wherein the second duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

19. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 16, wherein one of the duct sections includes a column of apertures, the apertures being selectively alignable with at least one aperture of the other of the duct sections so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height.

20. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 19, wherein the fastener is a bolt.

21. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 19, wherein the fastener is a spring-loaded pin.

22. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 19, wherein the apertures of the column of apertures are evenly spaced.

23. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 19, wherein the column of apertures and the at least one aperture are located adjacent a corner area of the respective duct sections.

24. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

first and second duct sections, each having a generally rectangular cross-section,

wherein the generally rectangular cross-section of the first duct section is smaller than the generally rectangular cross-section of the second duct section such that the first duct section is nestable relative to the second duct section,

wherein the duct sections are telescopically adjustable to permit adjustment of a vertical height defined by the first and second duct sections,

wherein one of the first and second duct sections includes a lower mounting edge to facilitate attachment to an electronic equipment enclosure, and

wherein the lower mounting edge includes an aperture for accommodating a fastener.

25. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 24, wherein the first duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

26. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 24, wherein the second duct section includes the lower mounting edge.

27. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 24, wherein one of the duct sections includes a column of apertures, the apertures being selectively alignable with at least one aperture of the other of the duct sections so as to accommodate a fastener extending through both duct sections, thereby fixing the vertical height.

28. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 27, wherein the fastener is a bolt.

29. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 27, wherein the fastener is a spring-loaded pin.

30. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 27, wherein the apertures of the column of apertures are evenly spaced.

31. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 27, wherein the column of apertures and the at least one aperture are located adjacent a corner area of the respective duct sections.

32. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

an inner duct section and an outer duct section,

wherein the inner duct section nests within the outer duct section and telescopes to adjust the height of the vertical exhaust duct,

wherein the outer duct section includes at least one opening for securing the vertical exhaust duct at a desired height;

wherein the inner duct section includes at least one opening aligned with the at least one opening of the outer duct section; and

wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section includes at least one pair of spaced apart openings disposed on opposite sides of the inner duct.

33. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 32, wherein the at least one opening of the outer duct section is adapted to receive a fastener.

34. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 32, wherein the fastener includes a nut.

35. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 32, wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section is adapted to receive a fastener.

36. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 35, wherein the fastener includes a nut.

37. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 32, wherein the inner duct section includes a top flange.

38. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 32, further comprising a base for securing the outer duct section to the electronic equipment enclosure.

39. A vertical exhaust duct for an electronic equipment enclosure, the vertical exhaust duct comprising:

an inner duct section and an outer duct section,

wherein the inner duct section nests within the outer duct section and telescopes to adjust the height of the vertical exhaust duct,

wherein the outer duct section includes at least one opening for securing the vertical exhaust duct at a desired height;

wherein the inner duct section includes at least one opening aligned with the at least one opening of the outer duct section;

wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section is adapted to receive a fastener; and

wherein the fastener includes a nut.

40. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 39, wherein the at least one opening of the outer duct section is adapted to receive a fastener.

42. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 39, wherein the inner duct section includes a top flange.

43. The vertical exhaust duct of claim 39, further comprising a base for securing the outer duct section to the electronic equipment enclosure.

41. The vertical exhaust duct of 39, wherein the at least one opening of the inner duct section includes at least one pair of spaced apart openings disposed on opposite sides of the inner duct.
