1. One or more computer-readable storage device having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that when executed by a computing device having a processor and memory, cause the computing device to perform a method for electronically transferring data associated with a patient from a medical device to an electronic medical record (EMR) that corresponds to the patient, the method comprising:

  • receiving an identification of the medical device;

    receiving an identification of a first patient;

    receiving a user selection to associate the first patient to the medical device;

    in response to receiving the user selection to associate the first patient to the first medical device, acquiring the data associated with the first patient from the medical device;

    communicating the data to a requesting application that stores the data indefinitely for future reference for display in a format that allows a user to add to, delete, or edit the data that is associated with the first patient from the medical device prior to the data being transmitted to the patient'"'"'s EMR;

    receiving an indication that the data is to be transmitted to the EMR that corresponds only to the first patient, wherein the EMR that corresponds to the first patient stores patient information relevant only to the first patient'"'"'s medical history and current treatment;

    upon receiving the indication that the data is ready to be transmitted to the EMR, thus indicating that the user has reviewed the data, transmitting the data from the requesting application to the EMR that corresponds to the first patient such that the data is stored in the EMR in association with the first patient; and

    automatically disassociating the first patient and the medical device upon transmission of the data to the EMR so that a second patient can be associated to the medical device such that the data transmitted to the EMR continues to be stored in the EMR after the first patient is disassociated from the medical device.
