1. A method for automatically delivering defibrillation shocks to a patient, comprisingapplying electrodes to the chest of the patient for delivering a defibrillation shock to the patient and for detecting an ECG signal;

  • analyzing the ECG signal to determine if the cardiac rhythm is shockable (treatable by defibrillation therapy);

    determining when pauses occur between CPR compressions while CPR is being delivered by analyzing the output of a compression-sensing or force-sensing element; and

    performing the ECG analysis with ECG signal data primarily from pauses between CPR compressions.
