1. A method of automatically requesting assistance for a patient, comprising:

  • wearing a wireless device with one or more accelerometers and a magnetometer or other sensors on the patient to detect patient motion, body rotation or height;

    using outputs of an accelerometer and one or more additional sensors, wherein the accelerometer and sensor are a single pendant, watch, or box to detect a fall, by analyzing changes in height and accelerations associated with changes in height and immediately thereafter determining if the patient is on a floor for a predetermined period;

    transmitting a request for help over a telephone; and

    confirming the fall when a person or a call center contacts the patient to verify the patient status and thereafter automatically requesting assistance for the patient.
