Injector system with a manual control device
First Claim
1. An injector system comprising:
- a powered injector adapted to be operatively connected with a pressurizing chamber, the pressurizing chamber being adapted for fluid connection with a fluid path such that, under control of the powered injector, the pressurizing chamber is enabled to draw therein via the fluid path an injection fluid from a source thereof and to deliver therefrom via the fluid path the injection fluid to a patient;
a manual control device in operative connection with the powered injector, the manual control device comprising an actuator that is in operative connection with the powered injector and is adapted to control the flow of the injection fluid in the fluid path, the manual control device comprising a first pressure mode wherein the farther the actuator is depressed the greater the flow rate at which the injection fluid is delivered to the fluid path from the pressurizing chamber, and further comprising a second pressure mode wherein depression of the actuator causes the powered injector to deliver a preprogrammed injection of the injection fluid at a preprogrammed fixed flow rate once the actuator is depressed;
a controller; and
an automated control valve controlled by the controller and associated with the fluid path and controlled to stop flow of the injection fluid at any pressure and flow rate when no force is applied to the actuator to deliver a sharp bolus of the injection fluid.

Abstract
An injector system includes a powered injector, a pressurizing chamber in operative connection with the powered injection, a fluid path in fluid communication with the pressurizing chamber, and a manual control in fluid connection with the fluid path. The manual control includes at least one actuator for controlling the injector through application of force by an operator. The actuator provides tactile feedback of pressure in the fluid path to the operator via a fluid connection therewith. An injection system for use in angiography includes a source of saline, a pump in fluid connection with the source of saline to pressurized the saline, a source of contrast, a contrast valve in fluid connection with the source of contrast, a powered injector in fluid connection with the contrast valve, and a pressure isolation mechanism.
