1. A system for driving a lighting device comprising:

  • a driving circuit for providing driving power for driving a lighting device including an anode and a cathode, the driving circuit comprising a voltage supply and a switching unit;

    a lighting circuit comprising the lighting device, such that the anode is at ground potential of the driving circuit and the cathode is at a potential negative to the ground potential, and an inductance connected between the anode of the lighting device and the driving circuit; and

    a decoupling unit for electrically decoupling the potential at the cathode from a positive potential of the driving circuit,wherein the switching unit is configured to selectively operate a driving current which flows through the decoupling unit, the inductance storing power when the switching unit is in an on-state and providing power to the lighting device when the switching unit is in an off-state, andwherein the anode is electrically coupled to a cooling unit via a slug directly mounted to the cooling unit to enhance thermal conductivity between the lighting device and the cooling unit.
