1. A method of receiving an allocation of a cluster of a plurality of clusters, each of the plurality of the clusters comprising a plurality of subcarriers, at a first subscriber station in a wireless system from a base station which communicates with a plurality of subscriber stations, the method comprising:

  • receiving an allocation, at the first subscriber station, of a diversity cluster to be used for a first data transmission from the base station by being provided a first cluster identification at the first subscriber station, the allocated diversity cluster including a plurality of disjoint subcarriers the first data transmission from the base station to occur simultaneously with a second data transmission from the base station, the second data transmission from the base station occurring by a second subscriber station receiving an allocation of a coherence cluster to be used for the second data transmission from the base station by being provided a second cluster identification at the second subscriber station, the allocated coherence cluster including only consecutive subcarriers.
