a display control unit configured to display the acquired map image on a display unit; and
an orientation detection unit configured to detect an orientation of the portable apparatus,wherein the display control unit displays the map image on the display unit according to the detected orientation, andwherein the map image acquisition unit is configured to set a size of the map image based on a setting state of the portable apparatus.

a position detection unit configured to detect a position of the portable apparatus; an azimuth detection unit configured to detect an azimuth of the portable apparatus; a map image acquisition unit configured to acquire a map image within a range based on the position and the azimuth; a display control unit configured to display the acquired map image on the display unit; and an orientation detection unit configured to detect an orientation of the portable apparatus, wherein the display control unit displays the map image on the display unit according to the detected orientation, wherein the map image is a map image having altitude information, and wherein the map image acquisition unit is configured to discriminate an angle of elevation of the portable apparatus based on an orientation of the portable apparatus detected by the orientation detection unit, and to remove a landmark having an altitude lower than an altitude specified by the discriminated angle of elevation from the acquired map image.
