1. An optical fiber storage apparatus, comprising:
- a generally tubular body having at least one circumferentially extending recess formed on an exterior of the body, the body being configured for interconnection in a tubular string which is lowered into a subterranean well, wherein a flow passage of the tubular string extends through the body; and
at least one optical fiber received in the recess and wound circumferentially about the body, thereby storing a substantial length of the optical fiber at a same longitudinal position along the tubular string.

Each of the conduit sections is received in the housing assembly. An optical connection between the optical fiber sections is positioned within the housing assembly.
