1. A laser system comprising:

  • a laser generating modelocked pulses;

    a stretcher for stretching the modelocked pulses;

    an optical amplifier for amplifying the modelocked pulses;

    a pulse compressor for compressing the amplified pulses;

    a detector for measuring the carrier envelope phase of the compressed pulses and generating an output signal corresponding thereto;

    a first controller generating a first feedback signal in response to changes in the output signal, said first feedback signal for controlling the modelocked laser, said first feedback signal having a first frequency range; and

    a second controller for generating a second feedback signal in response to changes in the output signal, said second feedback signal having a second frequency range lower than the first frequency range, said second feedback signal for controlling one of the pulse stretcher or pulse compressor.
