1. A tibial insert comprising:

  • a platform including an upper bearing surface,a keel extending downwardly from the platform, the keel having (i) a body formed from a first material and including a medial, downwardly-extending surface that defines a medial side of the keel, a lateral, downwardly-extending surface that defines a lateral side of the keel, and a distal surface connecting the medial, downwardly-extending surface and the lateral, downwardly-extending surface, (ii) a length defined along a longitudinal axis, and (iii) a width defined between the medial, downwardly-extending surface and the lateral, downwardly-extending surface along a lateral axis extending orthogonal to the longitudinal axis, anda reinforcement rod secured to the keel and formed from a second material different from the first material,wherein the keel includes a first opening defined in the medial, downwardly-extending surface, a second opening defined in the lateral, downwardly-extending surface, and a lateral bore extending between the first opening and the second opening transverse to the length of the keel and entirely through the width of the keel from the medial side to the lateral side,wherein the reinforcement rod is positioned in the lateral bore, the reinforcement rod extending from a first end positioned in the first opening of the keel to a second end positioned in the second opening of the keel such that the reinforcement rod extends entirely through the width of the keel from the medial side to the lateral side of the keel, and the reinforcement rod has a rod length extending from the first end of the reinforcement rod to the second end of the reinforcement rod, the rod length being equal to the width of the keel.
