1. A method for distributing bank cards, the method comprising:

  • programming at least one computer with instructions, the at least one computer having at least one computer processor and at least one storage medium coupled thereto; and

    executing the instructions with the at least one computer to perform;

    issuing, by a sponsoring bank, a universal bank card to a cardholder, the universal bank card being encoded with a universal account number, which, at time of issuance, is not associated with any bank account at the sponsoring bank; and

    activating the universal bank card by associating the universal account number-with a bank account held at a linked bank that is different from the sponsoring bank, the associating of the universal account number-with the bank account being implemented at a processing center, wherein approved transactions initiated with the universal bank card are funded by the associated bank account.
