1. A method for protecting data, comprising:
- connecting a new physical machine to a router;
detecting the new physical machine, with a virtual appliance, based on the connection;
adding the new physical machine to a database; and
backing up the new physical machine to a deduplicated virtual storage device, wherein the backup is in a virtual format, wherein backing up the new physical machine comprises;
taking a snapshot of a physical volume on the physical machine;
creating a blank virtual container on the deduplicated virtual storage device;
calculating a hash of a block in the snapshot;
determining whether the deduplicated virtual storage device has the hash; and
populating the blank virtual container with the block when the deduplicated virtual storage devices does not have the hash.
