- a plurality of data processing units (DPUs) coupled to an intra-bottle communications network, wherein each data processing unit is configured to run a part or all of a data processing application, andan optical interface unit (OIU) configured to communicatively couple the intra-bottle communications network to an internal network of one or more free space optical communication links configured to provide redundant interconnectivity between a plurality of nodal points distributed across a data center, wherein the redundant connectivity is provided through redundant meshes operating at a number of discrete wavelengths, andwherein the OIU is configured to connect or disconnect the data center bottle to or from one or more of the redundant meshes of the internal network of one or more free space optical communication links.

Each of the processing units, sub-units or servers can execute a part or all of the data processing application. The processing units, sub-units or servers are electrical disjoint with respect to data communications, but can communicate with each other over free space optical links.

a plurality of data center units (DCUs) disposed in a region, wherein each DCU comprises a plurality of data processing units (DPUs), coupled with an intra-DCU communications network, configured to run a part or all of a data processing application, and wherein at least a first of the plurality of data center units has an optical interface unit (OIU) responsive to optical control signals; an internal network of one or more free space optical control and/or data communication links configured to provide redundant interconnectivity, through redundant meshes operating at a number of discrete wavelengths, between nodal points associated with individual DCUs across the data center, wherein the OIU is configured to couple the intra-DCU communications network of the first of the plurality of data center units with one or more redundant meshes of the internal network; and

in a data center, providing a data center bottle, each data center bottle having a plurality of data processing units (DPUs) coupled to an intra-bottle communications network, wherein each data processing unit is configured to run a part or all of a data processing application, providing an optical interface unit (OIU) configured to communicatively couple the intra-bottle communications network to a network of one or more free space optical communication links; and providing an internal network of one or more free space optical communication links configured to provide redundant interconnectivity between a plurality of nodal points distributed across the data center, wherein the redundant connectivity is provided through redundant meshes operating at a number of discrete wavelengths.
