First Claim
1. A computer network communication device comprising:
- a housing;
a non-volatile memory located within the housing, the non-volatile memory containing a unique device identifier that identifies the computer network communication device as an instant messaging device; and
a controller located within the housing and operatively connected to memory located within the housing, the controller being configured to execute programmed instructions stored in the memory located within the housing to implement a communication module that generates and sends a data message for use with a service accessed through an Internet Service Provider in response to a command entered by a user, generates and sends a monitor message containing the unique device identifier and data corresponding to the command entered by the user, parses command messages received by the computer network communication device, enables the communication module of the instant messaging device to detect buddy list selections, buddy list additions, and buddy list modifications stored in a memory within the housing and to generate monitor messages containing at least one of the buddy list selections, buddy list additions, and buddy list modifications, and enables the communication module to identify a block command in the parsed command message received in response to a user command corresponding to a buddy list addition for a buddy entry that was previously deleted and to generate a message indicating that the buddy list addition command entered by the user has been blocked.
