1. A system for subatmospheric pressure therapy in connection with healing a wound, the system comprising:

  • a wound dressing dimensioned for positioning over the wound and configured to establish a reservoir over the wound in which subatmospheric pressure may be maintained;

    a subatmospheric pressure mechanism comprising a housing and a vacuum source disposed in the housing;

    a collection canister configured to be in fluid communication with the vacuum source;

    a wound port configured to be operatively connected to the wound dressing in fluid communication with the reservoir, the wound port comprising;

    a vacuum port; and

    a plurality of holes formed in a plate and arranged circumferentially around the wound port, the plurality of holes being operable to allow ambient air into the reservoir; and

    an exudate conduit configured to be in fluid communication with the wound port and the collection canister, the exudate conduit configured for transporting exudate removed from the reservoir to be deposited in the collection canister under influence of the vacuum source.
