1. A method for editing multimedia content (MMC) in a web-based services environment and tracking, controlling, and managing metadata corresponding to the MMC, the method comprising:

  • providing a global media hub (GMH) including at least one GMH server computer, the GMH server computer;

    providing at least one client computer;

    providing at least one remote media asset node (MAN) having a least one MAN server computer at or proximal to the at least one client computer so that it is closer in distance to the at least one client computer than the at least one GMH server computer, the at least one MAN computer in electronic communication over a network with the at least one GMH computer;

    generating at the at least one MAN a copy of an original MMC using the at least one client computer, wherein all metadata corresponding to the original MMC including an identifier for the original MMC is stored at the GMH;

    storing all metadata corresponding to the copy of the MMC including an identifier for the copy of the MMC at the GMH;

    editing the copy of the MMC at the at least one MAN using the at least one client computer;

    controlling, with the GMH, all activities and processes associated with the editing of the copy of the MMC at the at least one MAN;

    storing the edited copy of the MMC at the at least one MAN;

    storing all metadata corresponding to the edited copy of the MMC including an identifier for the edited copy of the MMC at the GMH; and

    managing at the GMH in a hierarchical-based metadata genealogy the metadata of the original MMC, the copy of the MMC, and the edited copy of the MMC.
