Process for generating computer flight plans on the internet
First Claim
1. A process of providing an aviation navigation chart over a computer network comprising:
- receiving a request by a server computer from a client computer, the client computer in communication with the server computer via the computer network, the request received over the computer network, the request including an indication of a departure point and a destination point selected by a user of the client computer;
generating a composite travel navigation chart in response to the request, the composite travel navigation chart having a foreground frame and a background image of a geographic area, the background image including the departure point and the destination point;
indicating X, Y coordinates of the departure point and the destination point, sending the X, Y coordinates of the departure point and the destination point to the foreground frame, and drawing a route line between the X, Y coordinates of the departure point and the destination point in the foreground frame;
overlaying the foreground frame on the background image such that the route line extends between the departure point and the destination point included on the background image; and
displaying the composite travel navigation chart by the client computer.

Abstract
A process of providing an aviation navigation chart over a computer network includes receiving a request by a server computer from a client computer. The client computer is in communication with the server computer via the computer network. The request is received over the computer network. The request includes an indication of a departure point and a destination point selected by a user of the client computer. The process also includes generating, at the server computer, a composite travel navigation chart in response to the request. The composite travel navigation chart includes a travel chart image with the departure point and the destination point and a route line extending between the departure point and the destination point. Furthermore, the process includes delivering the composite travel navigation chart from the server computer to the client computer for display by the client computer.

16. A flight plan generating method, comprising:
-
providing a Web page having a frame and a selected composite travel navigation chart over a computer network to a browser on client computer, the selected composite travel navigation chart including a selected travel chart merged with travel navigation waypoints, the travel navigation waypoints including radio navigation aids; displaying at least a portion of the selected composite travel navigation chart in the browser on the client computer as an at least 1×
1 array of at least one map tile that includes up-to-date navigation data and that covers an area over which a flight is to be planned;indicating X, Y coordinates of each of a plurality of navigation waypoints on the selected composite travel navigation chart displayed in the browser on the client computer; sending the X, Y coordinates of each navigation waypoint to the frame of the Web page; and drawing over the selected composite travel navigation chart in the browser on the client computer route line segments according to the X, Y coordinates, as instructed by the frame of the Web page, to generate a flight plan for preflight use by a pilot. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19)
