1. A method for determining a current position of a mobile device, said method comprising:

  • in a mobile device, storing historic location information and associated time information;

    transmitting network information and at least some historic location information from the mobile device to a network, the network information identifying at least one radio access network transmitting one or more signals received by the mobile device;

    receiving, from the network, approximate location information descriptive of a location of the mobile device based at least in part on the network information or on the at least some historic location information; and

    determining, by the mobile device, information indicative of the current position of the mobile device based at least in part on the approximate location information being used as a seed position;

    wherein said historic location information includes past location data indicative of a location of the mobile device paired with time stamp data for said past location data;

    wherein the at least some historic location information received from the mobile device comprises one or more serving cell identities, each of the one or more serving cell identities associated with status information indicating that the serving cell identity is not current, current, or unknown.
